Wuxi has a poor reputation as a tourist city with expats. Suzhou receives a nice write up in the Lonely Planet Guidebook, in the older editions, Wuxi receives only a passing mention as an urban wasteland. Nothing can be further from the truth.

Like Suzhou, Wuxi is historically famous for its parks and gardens. While foreigners visit Suzhou to view these, most Chinese tourists head to Wuxi. Tourism contributes about ten percent of Wuxi’s gross domestic product and every year the number of visitors increases.
