Approximately 60 trains a day make a stop in Wuxi. These are heading for nearby cities such as Shanghai, Nanjing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, or more distant cities like Beijing, Harbin, Changchun, Shenyang, Jinan, Zhengzhou, Taiyuan, Xi'an, Lanzhou, Xining, Chengdu and Urumqi. Almost every major city in China is directly connected with Wuxi.

ADVICE! If you are arriving at the Wuxi Train Station and need a cab, the Taxi stand is located on the lower level.

Wuxi’s train station is located downtown, a 15 min walk from the Baoli Shopping Center or an 8 RMB cab ride. If you are taking the cab to the station the words “Huo Che Zhan” will get you there. Don’t try this in a city like Beijing or Shanghai where the driver will ask you which train station you need to go to. In Wuxi there is only one train station.  If you are desperate show the driver your train ticket. They will figure it out eventually.

It is possible to purchase round trip tickets for Wuxi to Shanghai and Shanghai to Wuxi. Daily commuter trains travel between Nanjing - Wuxi - Suzhou and Shanghai.  These fast trains are indicated with a D on the ticket. Tickets to Shanghai cost approximately 48 RMB for first class or soft seating. It now takes about 45 mins to get to Shanghai.

ADVICE! It is possible to purchase tickets on the day of departure. You must recognize that travel to and from Shanghai is in popular demand. Tickets can sell out fast during national holidays.

It is better to book your tickets a few days ahead. Note however that travel agents will not allow you to book a ticket more than three days ahead of your expected date of travel.

Over night trains from Wuxi to Beijing, and return trains from Beijing to Wuxi, are popular with businessmen. Typically these trains leave Wuxi at about 8:30 and arrive in Beijing the following morning.at approximately 7:30 am. Trains leaving Beijing depart at 9:30 pm. The trip takes 11 ½ hours.

Tickets cost 458 RMB for a soft sleeper  in which you share a room with four other travelers. This is about half the price of a plane ticket. The overnight train to Beijing has one great advantage over taking the train. You will arrive at the Beijing train station downtown and thus avoid spending the morning in Beijing getting from the airport to your downtown hotel or meeting.
